The Answer: Nitrogen is an inert gas which will not burn or accelerate combustion attributable to tire failure due to overheating, and possible subsequent and often catastrophic "blow outs".

Nitrogen use is required by law in aircraft tires. It is also used on the Nascar Race Car Circuit and in military vehicles for this same reason.

The Answer: Nitrogen in your tires will save you money by reducing the cost of operating your vehicle:

1. Tire life will be greatly extended. Independent studies indicate that you can expect to gain a 25% to 35% increase in tread life using Nitrogen.
2. Fuel costs will be reduced by 3% to 4%. For an average motorist this could amount to 2 or 3 tanks of fuel annually.

The Answer: The reason is very simple and supported by scientific evidence.

Nitrogen does not permeate (leak) through the sidewall of the tire at the same rate as oxygen.

Tires filled with compressed air typically leak at a rate of about 2 PSI per month. Nitrogen's permeability factor is approximately one sixth (1/6) this rate. As a result, optimum tire pressure is maintained. This results in reduced tire wear. Additionally, by maintaining optimum pressure in the tire, less drag is experienced and fuel consumption is decreased accordingly.

Tires filled with Nitrogen run about 20% cooler than tires filled with compressed air. Cooler temperatures yield longer tire life.

The Answer: Yes there are a number of other reasons to use Nitrogen in your tires. Some of them are:

• As Nitrogen is a very dry and inert gas, oxidation of rubber and steel are virtually eliminated. Valve stems, tire cords, and rims last longer. The oxygen and moisture and the resulting oxidation (rust) is eliminated.
• Temperature fluctuations greatly impact tire pressure in tires filled with compressed air. Nitrogen is not affected by seasonal variations in temperature as regular compessed air is.

The Answer: Yes, it will, in a positive sense.

Most TPM systems are actuated when the sensors indicate that tire pressure has dropped approximately 25%.

 In our opinion this is too late. If you operate your vehicle with the tire pressure reduced by 25% tire life is reduced by over 30% and your fuel consumption will have risen over 6%.

Additionally, some TPM systems are susceptible to giving off erroneous readings when the temperature fluctuates.

For this and many other reasons, many automobile manufacturers are mandating Nitrogen use in all of their new cars equipped with TPM systems.
